To qualify for the New York State licensed clinical social worker psychotherapy "R" privilege, an individual must have the LCSW and an additional 3 years of LCSW experience in psychotherapy under the supervision of an LCSW, licensed psychologist or psychiatrist. This must include at least 400 client contact hours (about 45 minutes each) of psychotherapy in any 12-month period, individual supervision of at least two hours a month, and group supervision of at least four hours per month.
The NASW Diplomate in Clinical Social Work is the highest distinction bestowed on clinical social workers. Clinical social work services consist of assessment; diagnosis; treatment, including psychotherapy and counseling; client-centered advocacy; consultation; and evaluation.
I trained for 6 years full-time at an outpatient mental health clinic, with full participation in trainings, and 2 or more hours of expert supervision weekly. I then trained for 5 more years at the same clinic on a part-time basis, with continued expert supervision and training, as I developed my private practice.
I am a graduate of the Martha K. Selig Institute for clinical social work. Completing the requirements of the institute was a two-year commitment.
I also completed training at New York Univerisity to supervise other social workers in their placements as they complete their post-graduate MSW degree.
Academics and Supervised Training
BA degree from Duke University
MBA from Columbia University
MSW degree from Fordham University
While studying to be a psychotherapist I took 20 courses on social work, with a focus on clinical social work. (Clinical social work means psychotherapy.) My GPA was 3.95.
Meditation experience I began meditating 30 years ago. It has become a part of my approach to psychotherapy. Meditation helps me focus in on my clients. And sometimes I use elements of meditation to help my clients have a deeper experience of themselves and that which is around them. For more, go to (Button: Bio in Mindfulness tab)

Collaboration
Collaboration is often an important part of this work. I am available to collaborate and to work as closely with you as in indicated.
Referrals and Recommendations
I welcome calls about referrals from other professionals. I am comfortable collaborating with other medical professionals, with the consent of our client. That is the working model of the clinic where I trained for 10 years. The work is often enriched through this collaboration.
